The weather report this week is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs according to this week's mystery reader. The book, written by Judi Barrett, is about a town where no one had to cook, breakfast, lunch, and dinner simply fell from the sky. The students really enjoyed the story and the donuts that "came down from the sky" in class.
Our first graders do well when learning from our readers and our textbooks, but they also enjoy some alternative learning strategies. Last week we participated in an online math competition and first grade beat the rest of the elementary school and earned themselves a dress down day. Three of our first graders were in the top 50 students of all the students from all the classes in all the schools that played, Chinoye Oparanozie, Enzo DiFatta, and Ellie Green. First grade also brought in more than any other class for the Jump Rope for Heart and earned themselves an extra gym class. Henry Corbin brought in more than anyone in the school with over $600!
