First grade has been having some real fun lately! We've done science experiments, had a storyteller come in and tell us a story, read and had ice cream with our prayer partners, did some great things in gym class, got wet in gym and at recess, and had fun learning about our president. It's been a great year with a great class!
The first grade did a tour of Revonah Pretzel Factory. We walked to and from the factory and listened very politely to the owner explaining how they make the official pretzels of the Pittsburgh Steelers. When the tour was over, we walked back to the school yard and played a game of kickball and snacked on soft pretzels. It was a good day!
We had dinosaurs in our classroom - one on each desk in fact! That was the surprise that our most recent mystery reader brought to the classroom. He read a book called I am a T-rex by Grosset and Dunlap, which was about a baby tyrannosaurus rex that hatched in a pteranodon nest and knew he wasn't like his siblings. Then our mystery reader gave each of the students a dinosaur toy. What great fun!
The end of the year is approaching quickly! Here are a few dates to remember:
May 11 First grade has gym; wear your gym uniform
May 12 Pretzel tour; first grade dress down day for winning the Sumdog competition. Please wear comfortable, closed-toed walking shoes or your child will not be able to do the tour.

We had a mystery reader join us for some great fish fun. She read Gilbert Goldfish Wants a Pet by Kelly DiPucchio. It was about a goldfish that wanted a pet of his own. The students enjoyed treats and a bag of goldfish to help them remember the story. This is a funny book; if you ever get the chance to read it, you'll enjoy it!
