We have had lots of mystery reader fun in the past few weeks! First, we heard I Love You, Bingo by Jackie Davis. These books are some of my favorites because they feature a basset hound! In the story, LuLu loves her dog, Bingo, and she talks about her best day spent with him. After the story, our readers shared a bag of cool dog-themed toys with each student. Next, we heard We are the Gardners by Joanna Gaines. This book told the story about a family creating a garden, including all the failures and successes in gardening. Our reader brought in a variety of seeds for the students to plant. Over the next two weeks, observing our plants, we learned that radish seeds grow very quickly compared to other seeds! Our next reader read The Sweet Touch by Lorna and Lecia Balian. In the story, a ring from a gumball machine releases a baby genie who grants Peggy "the sweet touch." She is overjoyed by all the candy that keeps appearing around her, until she gets a tummy ache and wants to take her wish back. The students were intrigued by how the book started in black and white and added more color throughout the pages. Then the students were each given a bag of candy! Yum! Our last mystery reader read the Mermaid by Jan Brett. In the story, the young mermaid finds a lovely house that she enters and makes herself at home in, but finds out later that it is the home of an octopus family. The illustrations in all Jan Brett books are just amazing and this is one of the best I've seen! The fun ended with a bag of gummy octopuses for each student.
