Thank you to everyone who sent in snacks and drinks for the Halloween party. And thank you to Mrs. Kennedy for helping! The students had a great time playing Halloween bingo, having snacks, and playing the mummy game. Every child had a chance to get wrapped up like a mummy and then pop the treasure balloon. Enjoy the pictures!
Congratulations to first grade's Hailey Eusini! She was our top seller of Wolfgang candy and the school's third top seller! She pulled $15 out of the money machine and won a $25 gift card to Target!
Tonight is the last night for the Sumdog competition. We are currently in second place, out of 26 local schools. On October 22 we were the daily winner of the competition! Great job first grade! Quite a few of our students were in the top 50 of all students in the competition!
Tomorrow is dress down day for our Halloween party. Students are asked to wear black or orange and to donate $1.
First graders will be visiting the book fair on Tuesday, October 29. If you are sending money, please send it by Tuesday morning.
Since tonight is the last night of the Sumdog competition, first grade has no written homework. However, we are having a religion test on Chapter 5 on Monday and a Spanish test on Tuesday. The Spanish test will be a matching test listing the Spanish words for the animals in their notes and the Spanish words for hungry, thirsty, hot and cold. I will review it in the classroom with the kids each day from now until Tuesday.
Reading logs are due tomorrow. For more dates and reminders and more pictures, please scroll down!
If anyone would like to send in a snack for the first grade Halloween party, please email me and let me know. I need a sweet snack, salty snack, fruit, and juice boxes. I also need plates and napkins. The party is this Friday. Thanks so much!
After the weekend, St. Joseph School was in third place in the sumdog competition. However, after playing today a little in the computer room, we are in FIRST PLACE! Let's keep this momentum going! Our team is made up of first grade, sixth grade, seventh grade, and eighth grade! Four of our first graders were in the standings for the top 50 point scorers of all students in the competition! Good job Josie, Cody, Xiomara, and Ella! Good job everyone! Keep it up! The competition runs until Thursday!
We are trying something quite exciting in first grade this coming week! We have signed up on an online math competition called Sum Dog. Each child has a username and password written in their agenda book. All they need to do is go to www.sumdog.com and log in using that information and they can play games that will help them become quite proficient in math! Your child can play on sumdog tonight or tomorrow for practice or fun. However, on Friday, October 18th, your child will be playing for points in a week-long competition. The competitions are set up by the local Lincoln Intermediate Unit. Despite the fact that this is set up as a competition, I have stressed to the students that this is a fun way to practice math and that is what is most important! If your child is not allowed on the internet at home or does not have access to the internet, he or she can play at school when time permits. All students will be given some time at school to play this game. This is a great way to help students practice math! Please email me with any questions you may have! Below are some pictures of the kids playing on sumdog.
I wanted to remind all parents that I am not posting the homework every night now that the students are writing their homework down in their agenda books. Please sign these books every day.
Also, I wanted to remind parents that the schedule is a little different in first grade than kindergarten. Students start their day in the cafeteria. We come up to our classroom at 8:05 am. If your child is not here to come upstairs as a class, then he or she is missing our morning routine and valuable learning time. When students have appointments, of course, we understand that.
