We have doing a lot of fun things at school. We have been working in small groups, using the interactive white board and the iPads, and we have started Sumdog (for more information on Sumdog, scroll down). The first graders are learning subtraction in math, blends and digraphs in phonics, and Christopher Columbus in social studies. We have finished studying the planets in science and will soon be learning about magnets. We had a blast at the fire assembly on Thursday and had fun with our Delone helpers! Below are some pictures of us working in groups, playing instruments in music class, and enjoying the fire assembly. Remember, if you need to see any older posts, just scroll down.
We have signed the students up for an online math website called Sumdog. Each child has a username and password taped in the cover of their agenda book. All they need to do is go to www.sumdog.com and log in using that information and they can play games that will help them become quite proficient in math! This is a fun way to practice math and that is what is most important! If your child is not allowed on the internet at home or does not have access to the internet, he or she can play at school when time permits. All students will be given some time at school to play this game. Please email me with any questions you may have. Later in the year we will be doing competitions with other schools using the website but the students can play on it anytime. The questions may start out hard, but the game is testing to see what the student knows by level. It will not take long for the game to figure out what level is independent practice for your student.
