As we end our first trimester, I have so many reasons to be proud of first grade! First, they raised a lot of money for the school by selling Wolfgang and fruit. Then, they brought in a ton of mashed potatoes to be shared with those who need help feeding their families this holiday. On Veteran's Day, they made Christmas and thank you cards for local veterans.
They also reached a big reading goal this week as a class. They have read over 10,000 minutes in their reading logs this school year; 10,137 to be exact! We will be celebrating on Monday! They have learned the water cycle and are currently doing an experiment on evaporation in school. They are diligently practicing their Christmas songs in music class and getting ready for first grade's annual Advent service project. I'm very proud of all they are accomplishing!
We had our first mystery readers come in and help us celebrate Halloween. They read the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and gave each of the students a pumpkin with goodies. The students were very excited to start this exciting program! When asked what was their favorite part, almost all of the students said listening to the story! These kids love to be read to! Thank you to our first mystery readers! You did a great job!
