We have started a new unit in social studies, maps and globes. The students have been enjoying learning about our country and our world. As part of this unit, we are starting our Flat Stanley project. I have sent the initial letter home asking for addresses to send Flat Stanley. Each student should provide an address of someone that is willing to take a few pictures of Flat Stanley doing something that helps us learn about their hometown. For instance, when Flat Stanley went to Manhattan in the past, the host sent pictures of him in a yellow taxi, entering a skyscraper, and seeing Times Square. If your child does not have someone that he or she can send Flat Stanley to, please let me know, and their Flat Stanley can go with my husband on one of his business trips. Eric has taken Flat Stanley before and does not mind at all! I have received some addresses already and Flat Stanley is traveling to some great places this year that he's never been to before! I will be sending a letter with detailed instruction along with Flat Stanley. The letter has my email address and the host should feel free to contact me by email with any questions or concerns. In the past, Flat Stanley has lost appendages, has sailed down the Ohio River (never to be heard from again), and has simply gotten lost. I'll do my best to help fix anything that comes up!
Our class Mass is April 1st. This Mass is a normal first Friday Mass in the school gym but the first grade will be preparing it. The first graders will be doing most of the jobs in Mass: cantors, readers, greeters, cross bearers, and gift bearers. We will be choosing the songs and working hard at making the Mass a true celebration of our faith. Please feel free to join us for the 10:30 Mass. Also, if your child is a reader or cantor, please practice often with them at home so they are prepared. Getting up and singing or reading in front of the whole school is scary, so I am just so proud of them for volunteering!
