We had a lot of fun preparing for and celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas in first grade! For Thanksgiving, we invited our prayer partners to join us and we made a trail mix with each ingredient being a symbol of a blessing from the holiday. We then watched the Peanuts Thanksgiving while we ate our trail mix. For Christmas, our prayer partners invited us to make edible Christmas trees. We decorated them with green icing, licorice, chocolate chips, sparkles, and M&Ms. Then we had fun eating our beautiful and yummy trees! Another great surprise was a visit from Santa. He read The Night Before Christmas and gave each first grader a chance to sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. We had a fun Christmas party where we shared snacks and drinks and even Christmas tree pizza. We played games and everyone won Christmas prizes. In addition to these great events, we had a visit from St. Nicholas, we read many Christmas stories, did Christmas crafts, and even made some ornaments. And of course we learned a lot about the real reason for the season, the birth of our Savior. We also lead Los Posadas throughout the school, the Mexican reenactment of the Holy Family looking for a place to stay.
