Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and More

1/24/2022

The first graders are back in full swing. As part of our Martin Luther King, Jr. lesson, we learned that MLK was a brave man who had a dream for the world and worked hard for that dream in a peaceful way. The first graders each came up with a "dream" that they thought would help make the world a better place. First grade also started working on their math and reading skills on IXL, a subscription-based learning program that personalizes the lessons for each student. We continue to learn new phonics skills and practice our writing skills. We are doing place value in math and working with numbers up to 100. We are learning about Jesus' life on earth and how we, too, should spread the Good News! Over the next few weeks we will be celebrating. We soon will be celebrating our second milestone for our reading log minutes - 20,000! Catholic Schools Week is next week and our 100th day of school is Monday, the 31st. See below the pictures for upcoming dates.
Important upcoming dates:
January 30th - February 5th: Catholic Schools Week activities
January 31st: 100th day of school; Dress like you're 100 years old
February 1st: Dress down in gym-type clothes for our Olympic Games; first grade should wear orange
February 2nd: Dress down in SJS spirit wear; wear clothing appropriate to participate in the Jump Rope for Heart
February 3rd: Dress in your favorite team jerseys or colors
February 4th: Dress your best - dress up in nice clothes for our school Mass
February 21st: No school
