Our last mystery reader read Scaredy Squirrel by Melanie Watt. The story was about a squirrel, so scared of the outside world, he never left his tree. Eventually, though, he finds himself out of his tree and all of the scary things he was afraid of are not as scary as he thought. The story was great, and the students loved joining in holding up the things Scaredy Squirrel is afraid of, such as spiders, sharks, and poison ivy. But the best part was the theater that came with the story. Complete with a Scaredy Squirrel safety pack, one of our mystery readers acted out the story as the other told the story and the kids laughed and laughed, especially every time "Scaredy Squirrel" played dead. The students then had a chance to design their own safety pack. It was a great lesson with a lot of laughs!
