Dear Future Second Graders,
I hope you have a wonderful, amazing, incredible, exciting, and inspirational summer! I also hope you take this time off school to study your math facts and read, read, read! Reading is so important and so much fun! Here is a list of books that would be great for you to read over the summer! Please pick books you enjoy so you are encouraged to keep reading. Also, please choose books that you can read fluently and you can understand well.
A great place to start is with Random House’s Step Into Reading Books. They are numbered so you can start with the easier books and move on to the more difficult books when you feel comfortable. There are so many of these books that you can read about almost anything.
Some authors that the students find interesting include Cynthia Rylant (Henry and Mudge and Mr. Putter and Tabby), Laura Numeroff, Tommie dePaola, Mike Thaler (Black Lagoon books), and Dr. Seuss. Some good series include the Rookie Biographies, Curious George, Perfectly Princess Books by Alyssa Crowne, and the Magic Treehouse books by Mary Pope Osborne.
Any reading you do over the summer will help prepare you for second grade, so keep reading! This list is just to give you a place to start.
Have a blessed, safe, and wonderful summer and remember that I am very proud of how well you did in first grade!
