Here is what we've been working on
NPhonics: We are working on much larger words in this second half of the school year. All the phonics rules are still a review of what they learning last year, but we are applying them to multi-syllabic words now. We worked on trigraphs, more suffixes, more diagraphs, and more final stable syllables.
Reading: We read "Jamaica Louise James" and "At Play - Now and Long Ago"". We also focused on the Author's Purpose.
English and Grammar: We studied abbreviations and possessive nouns. We also wrote and personal narrative story.
Math: We began working on double digit subtraction. With much practice and effort, I think the entire class is on board and doing well with this. We will dive into triple digit subtraction next week.
Science: We are studying our Earth. We learned about landforms and how the earth changes both quickly and slowly over time.
Social Studies: This month we studied Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We also talked about the Constitution and what it means for us. The children did a small project on this to turn in for the AmVets contest.
Religion: We are studying all the parts of the Mass. We learned about the Introductory Rites, the Liturgy of the Word, the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and the Concluding Rites. We are just about ready to begin learning how to received Holy Communion.
