Have a nice weekend!
The COGAT testing went well this week. We survived 3 days of testing. 5 to go next week. We will be IOWAs testing every morning so please continue to help make sure that your child gets a good night rest, a good breakfast in the morning, and to school on time. I've got a few fun activities planned though the week to help relieve some testing stress that I hope the students enjoy.
This week we dove into the wonderful world of geometry and each student is the proud new owner of a protractor! We've been drawing and measuring angles for a few days now and doing well with it! We've also started the Civil War in SS and the Periodic Table in Science.
Mrs. Scott helped us update the 5th grade page this afternoon by snapping an updated class pic for our "cover" at the top of our page. I figured it was time for the Christmas one to be updated! Check it out!
BIG THANKS for the birthday surprises on my birthday on Tuesday! The students surprised me with balloons, streamers, cards, cupcakes, brownies, flowers, and even an apple! A rendition of "Happy Birthday" even came out in bus line after school! Did you know Pope Emeritus Benedict's birthday is the same day? He is 86 this year. What a whirlwind day it was! Also thanks to you if you helped 'behind the scenes!"
I won't tell you who it was, but what really made me feel old this week wasn't my birthday, but when a student started to tell a story, "Well, a really long time ago....I don't know, I think the 1980's......" etc. I replied with a head shake. Kids....

Have a nice weekend!
We had a great week here in 5th grade! Very productive and we accomplished much! The kids really had a great time at the Race for Education today. It was a bummer that after all the gorgeous, sunny weather we had this week that today was rainy, but we made the most of it. They are still debating who ran the most laps. And most are still working on getting our heart rates back down. We got back to school just in time to do 5 fraction division problems - which the class is doing great with by the way - and then off to lunch! This afternoon, we spent time tidying up the classroom, playing games in the computer lab, and then Art.
Next week starts 2 weeks of testing. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest, has a good breakfast, and comes to school ready to go. We will spend 3 days working on COGATS next week and all 5 days the follow week with IOWAS. I have sharp #2 pencils ready to go. They are just waiting for kids to use them to fill in all of those little bubbles! Please try to make sure we don't have any late arrivals as it would be great if we could all stay together during the testing. Most testing will take place from 8:45-11:30. We will attempt to continue regular work, but in limited form.
Wednesday: Religion Ch 17 Test
Friday: Fraction Division Quiz
We will continue with the next Spelling List #23, but will not be tested on it until the 26th.
37 days of school left! Summer vacation is in sight!
Have a nice weekend!
I hope everyone has enjoyed their Easter celebrations this week! Fr. Lease reminded us at mass today that we are continuing to celebration the beauty of the resurrection. How blessed we are that Jesus died for us!
We've had a busy week here at school. Wrapping up some fractions work this afternoon, I'm very proud how well our class has done with the 3 fraction operations we have completed so far. We will begin division next week. We also wrapped up "Earth Science" and will be diving into the world of "Physical Science" next week. In Religion, we finished the Unit on the Sacraments of Healing and will start the Sacraments of Vocation next week. I've told the class we'll need to continue to work hard next week because the following 2 are busy with IOWAS and COGATS testing. Please try to avoid scheduling appointments during this time.
