New 5th Graders 2016-2017
A huge part of my job as your child’s 5th grade teacher is to prepare the kids for the more fast-paced and independent role that they will play in the middle school setting. As the school year progresses, I raise my expectations and expect more from each student. Everyone will be at their own level, but will still be pushed to be and do their best. I also like to emphasize to the students in the beginning of the school year how they are now the role models of the elementary school and that their behavior should be of the highest standard. Classroom and individual consequences as well as privileges will be clear from the first week.
The grade level meeting for the 5th grade will be Wednesday, August 17th at 5:30pm. Please mark your calendars now. It would be wonderful to have 100% attendance. I will have valuable information on how I manage the 5th grade as well as examples of assignments, copybooks, projects, etc.

We had a great time planting flowers in front of the school today. Mr. Josh gave them their first drink from the hose, but it sounds like God is taking over the weekend care - with some rainy days coming up.
Test Packets will be coming home on Monday and will include the final grades for the trimester. No other assessments will be given or late work accepted after Monday.
Thursday is our move-up day. Please refer to the green info sheet for details. Students should report directly to the MS in the morning. There is NO transportation for them from the ES if they get dropped off at the ES in the AM.
Next week, we are doing lots of cleaning/purging/packing. Gym uniforms and spirit wear is allowed.
Have a great weekend!
Amen, after a rainy, dreary week, the sun is out! As we wind down the end of our school days, we've been productive as we begin to wrap up some of our studies. Our last Religion Prayer Test has come and gone, our final CE is next week, we've completed our English studies, and next week we'll be wrapping up with our final grades for the trimester.
This coming week and the following week, your child should bring his/her recorder to school for Music.
Weather permitting, I have a gardening project for our class by the end of next week. If you have any small, handheld shovel tools, we could use a few extra by Thursday/Friday.
On Monday, students will receive an information sheet about our move-up day. It is bright green and has important reminders for drop-off, pick-up, and what to pack/bring that day.

Have a great weekend!
We had a short week with some schedule changes, but our class was good going with the flow. On Wednesday, we were treated to the Band Tour of our Junior Band lead by Mrs. Yealy and the Delone Jazz Ensemble and color guard under the direction of Mr. Yealy. Always a terrific show! Yesterday, we celebrated the Feast of the Ascension. Several of our students stepped up to help as 2nd grade was planning the liturgy for the first time.
Next week, our students will be participating in the Living Rosary and we are also hoping to preview the book fair on Friday. Our class will have their shopping day Tuesday 5/17.
As we come down to the wire here, we are looking at 1-2 more grades in each of our subjects. I've mentioned this in class and have said these are your last chances to improve/maintain what you've earned thus far. The grade portal is updated as of the graded papers in today's test packet.
This week, permission slips went home for our Move-Up Day on May 26th. (No cost) More information coming in a week or two. On Monday, students will be coming home with a physical form that must be completed before school starts again in the fall.
