Our big news this week is excitement over the arrival of our Math textbooks. Trees everywhere are thanking us!
We have been learning about the first Sacrament of Baptism in Religion class. Our wall of Baptism photos and SO many blessed babies is quite the eye-catcher. We've received lots of compliments! Thank you so much for sharing these photo memories with us. See image attached to this email.

Happy Friday the 13th! (So far, so good here at school today!)
We had our Student Council Election yesterday. We listened to candidate speeches on Wednesday AM and made our choices Thursday. The results are in: Congratulations to Laura, Matt, Riley S., and Adam in Middle School. 5th graders also send representatives to SC meetings. For trimester 1, our representatives are Ray & Chris. Our class does not vote for these, they are students selected based on the student expressing interest to myself and/or Mrs. Oliver and then following up by setting a good example in the classroom and around school.
Yesterday, we had a visitor! See photos attached. Msgr Lyons just stopped in to check on our religion studies. He also asked our class for their advice on what he should stay to the 2nd graders as they are preparing to receive 2 very important sacraments this year. I think we helped him out!
Our first CE assignment went well this week. We had an array of topics from weather, penguins, the York Fair, and much more. Thank you so much for helping the students make good article choices. These assignments will be due every other Wednesday.
Next Friday is picture day. Your child should wear what you'd like them photographed in, this means not necessarily the school uniform, but remembering school appropriate choices. Forms for this came home on Wednesday.

Baptism Photo Due

Friday - Spelling Lesson 4 Test

Have a wonderful weekend!
We practiced more Current Event assignments this week and I feel I should give you a heads up: one was about people eating bugs for nutritional value, protecting the food supply on the planet, cost effective, etc. I was going to purchase some packaged/processed bugs on Amazon for the students to try, but then considered the possible feedback. Hence, I'm telling you in case your child is genuinely interested, he/she may ask/tell you about our "buggy" conversation. But, good news, the kids were so grossed out by the article, they did a WONDERFUL job finding the 5Ws and responding to the questions. This is the last week we will practice together (this makes #4) and next week, students will complete their assignment independently at home. For our first few, please help guide your child in a good article choice, especially if they ask your advice.
Also, our 2nd test packet is coming home today. My normal routine is to give a 2 school day deadline. Most weeks, the test packet will come on a Friday, this means, return it to school by Tuesday. I know we are busy and full of errands over the weekend, so this can work for most. I tend to write notes to students and/or you on the individual tests instead of the slip, unless there may be a different kind of concern/comment I need to share with you that isn't test related. You may write comments/questions as needed on this slip.
