  Hi Parents!

What beautiful weather we had today! Our class mask breaks have been occurring all over campus here at SJS. I never thought COVID would provide us more opportunities to get outside and just enjoy the property! Our walks and breaks are turning into a class favorite.

We got a lot of testing completed this week. We had Math and Language STAR testing, Diebels Math testing, and our Ch 1 Math Test. We've started a Science project that will carry into next week. We discussed our upcoming school student council election and spoke about what it would take to earn the position of 5th Grade Representative. We also started to outline the path to the presidency as we'll be hosting a school Presidential Election soon!

Big thanks for sending the amazing Baptism photos. This place is our classroom has been a source of many compliments. They specials teachers have loved admiring your photos when the come visit us.

Our first prayer test is coming up on Tuesday and this is the Morning Offering prayer. Students will have the option of an oral or a written test.

Have a great weekend! God Bless You!

Hi Parents!

What a week in 5th grade! We've been rolling right along with our studies as we've been working our way through Nouns in English, onto our 2nd story in Reading, different types of worship in Religion, place value from hundred millions to thousandths in Math, matter, weight, and volume in Science, and Mesopotamia in Social Studies. We also spent this morning with a lesson on 9/11. I told the students about the awesome display of flags and their symbolism at West Manheim and encouraged them to make a visit or at least ask you to drive them by it. We also read a book together called He Said Yes. The story of the life of Father Mychal Judge and his acts on 9/11. Please ask your child to tell you about him.

I'm so excited to announce that on Monday we have 2 more desks ready to go in the classroom. Jordyn is rejoining as an in-person learner and we have a new student - Gabrielle! The class was so excited they cheered when I told them the news!

We are getting better with distancing guidelines and mask usage has been great. We know they droop at times, but one reminder can usually fix it. Hand sanitizing is at an all time high! We've used mask breaks to enjoy walks around the school building. Pray for lots of good weather so we can get out as much as possible!

School picture day is coming up - plan those outfits now! We will have pictures on September 25. Also, if you ordered a yearbook from SJS last year, I heard good news - Lifetouch just shipped them! COVID has caused so many delays. I hope they will be here soon and we can revisit some of our happy memories from the last school year.

Something else that arrived today were some more of our textbooks! Students now have their math and science consumable books. Yay - no more copies! We are only waiting for one more book - our Reader's Notebook.

Have a great weekend!

God Bless You!

Hi Parents!

Happy Labor Day Weekend! We made it!

We had a productive week diving into our studies! We are off to a good start in each subject and students have now also been welcomed back by all of our specials teachers. Mr. J is teaching about the Google Classroom, Mrs. F has the students making a "WANTED" poster of themselves, Mrs. P has started teaching how to play the recorder with our new precautions, etc! Our mask breaks, water bottles, and beach towels are becoming part of our day, but each day is different and I'm trying to find time for all of the above. Mask-wearing and frequent sanitizing are going well. 6 feet apart is a challenge at times as these kids have missed being around each other for so long, but we are working on it.

We'll have a short Math quiz on place value on Tuesday after some in-class review and practice. Our Ch 1 Religion test will be Wednesday. Our Spelling Test Lesson 2 will be Friday. (Spelling Tests will always be on Friday)

As much as I'm tired of hearing "the new normal", I want to thank you for your patience as we adapt to this "new normal" at school. Everything seems to take a bit longer these days and I'm managing not only the students, but a myriad of technology! Please bear with me as I try to juggle email, Google Classroom, all the Google Apps, the Rediker gradebook, Plus Portals, textbook subscription logins, our living meetings, cameras, Ipads, etc etc etc! The theme of this year is technology overload!

Finally, we took a few of our first tests today. My plan is to get a test packet home weekly on Fridays - starting next Friday. Then, please sign and return it to school with your child within 2 school days.

Have a wonderful weekend! I hear the weather will be BEAUTIFUL!

God Bless!
