This week we concluded the first trimester on Monday and began the second trimester on Tuesday. I showed the kids how crowded my grade book was from T1 and how completely blank it was for T2. The students filled out blank report cards with predictions for what they've earned for their report cards next week. I reminded students - as I have since the beginning of the year - that report cards are not only for letter grades in academic subjects, but also marks they work for in "Christian Values" and "Work Habits." I also pointed out that these are always listed first on the report card, highlighting that these help form a well-rounded Christian, not just a kid with book smarts.
We also worked hard this week collecting, organizing, and delivering boxes of donated food for the local shelters. Before our Thanksgiving Prayer Service yesterday, we had a final count of 65 cans of green beans from our class! We also amassed 16 boxes total from just the Elementary School. I'm assuming a minimum of 6 more from the Middle School. I know our donations are loved and very much appreciated. Thank you for your help and generosity to prayerfully help our local needy residents and families. Your kindness does not go unnoticed. (See website for photos.)

Thanks to your donations, we've been able to give 2 boxes to each classroom and have additional ones on standby for further need. We've amassed 20 cans of green beans so far in our classroom which has filled 2 boxes! We will continue collecting for 2 more weeks.
For the new lunch system/calendar, I know the due date listed isn't until the Monday that it actually starts, but the sooner you can fill it out and return it to school, the more time myself and the office have to prepare and complete the lunch forms for Ms. Pam to make necessary orders of supplies.
The parent portal should be accessible to all parents. (Although there is a link for students on the SJS site, this option is not yet available.) When Progress Reports went home, a bright green paper accompanied it with a code for your child and direction on how to gain access. If you are having trouble getting in, please contact Mrs. Scott at firstname.lastname@example.org. She should be able to resend needed directions to your email.
Hopefully, if you've been able to log in by now, there shouldn't be too many big surprises on the report card. I keep reminding the kids that "Christian Values" and "Work Habits" are at the TOP of the report card, before any letter grades, and stress the importance of these to help them become well-rounded students and Catholic citizens.
