Earlier this week, we were busy bees collecting, organizing, and arranging the boxes in the gym for pick-up. The elementary school filled 16 boxes of Thanksgiving supplies and our class brought in 57 cans of green beans! Surely, they will help so many of the less fortunate in our community. On Tuesday, we had our school prayer service. I have a new post on the website that shows recent pictures and you can find some from this week there.
We've been working hard on our research projects. Our research started with note-taking, then progressed to outlines, to drafts, (some had 2nd drafts), and finally good copies and cover pages. Most students are finished or nearly finished so these should be done and ready for sharing with the class. I'm looking forward to hearing about so many cool topics. We have a wide range: Dove chocolate, galaxies, bobcats, the brain, Joan of Ark, sea turtles, daredevils, cookies, and much more!
We are also starting to learn about heredity in Science. Students received an assignment on Thursday to ask Moms and Dads 5 questions to gather data. This should be ready for a project we'll be working on Monday and Tuesday.
I've been reminding the students that this week brought the 1st trimester to a close. Report cards are scheduled to go home to parents Tuesday, December 6. Everyone receives a print copy of this. Grades can be checked anytime at the portal. We start fresh next week!
Monday: Good copy & cover page of research essay due

Have a wonderful weekend!
Well, the culmination of our latest election has come and gone! It seems our students correctly predicted the outcome of the national election too! Trump won every classroom. The students had mixed emotions and reactions, but now, no matter our thoughts, we talked about how the country is tasked with coming together to help what is best for all: kindness and love as Jesus preached. I'm proud of all the hard work our class did preparing for and the day of the election and I asked that they temper their opinions of their preferred candidate and they did.
Now - onto the end of the first trimester next week and then think about all the Thanksgiving goodness and turkey we have to look forward too!

Have a wonderful weekend!
We've been working on 2 big projects this week. Our voter registration was yesterday and today for all students and staff. Yesterday alone, we registered 96 people! I hope the remainder of voters registered today so they will be able to participate on Tuesday. Special thanks to our 5th grade election officials for helping everyone get registered! We have plans for Tuesday to turn our classroom into the polling place for the school. The kids are excited and ready to see democracy in action!
The other project we've started is a research essay/project. At this point, all students have selected a topic, and should have a minimum of 2 verified websites as sources and at least 5 pieces of information gathered. We've discussed outlining and will be working to organize our notes prior to beginning the drafting process next week.
The green bean collection is going well - we have 35 now. (3 of which are enormous!) Thank you for all your donations. We will continue to collect these food items through the 15th.
