We had a lovely start to our week with 8:30 Mass and a special service for our local veterans. The 5th grade was chosen by Mrs. Pugliese to be our choir for church and also present a special "Thank a Veteran" song at our event in the Social Hall. I was very proud of their hard work and we all enjoyed our time with the veterans, hearing their stories and experiences.
We wrapped up the 1st trimester this week and yesterday started our 2nd trimester.
Finally, I was in a bit of a rush last week to work on this newsletter before I had to leave school so I just wanted to backtrack and mention our 5th grade winners for the fall fundraising. Austin came in 2nd and won movie tickets! Nolan came in 1st place and enjoyed 30 seconds in the money machine as well as an upcoming special lunch with Mr. Golden, complete with sundae bar! Big thanks to all who helped make this fall fundraiser so successful for SJS!

We spent some time this week sharing our October Book Reports and Saint Reports. We also had a fun circle-writing activity that we started last week and brought to conclusion this week that was focused on a Halloween theme. I think this was the students' favorite. We began a transition from multiplication to division - all the while reminding the class that multiplication will still be very much used throughout division, but also throughout the year. Some still need practice with math facts. Facts for numbers 1-12 should be memorized for rapid recall. There is no daily drill or instruction for facts in MS so I've been reminding those who may need to review flash cards.
