Hi Parents!
What we did this week: * Lots of Advent/Christmas activities * Christmas party on Tuesday * Animal hibernation presentation from Ms. Beth from Pinchot Park http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/GiffordPinchot/index.htm * Las Posadas with Mrs. Rupp & the 1st Grade * Prayer Partner Crafts * Games/snacks/videos ETC, ETC, ETC! There are 10 days left in December and the students still have Book It calendars. I've given the kids some extra time in class these past 2 weeks to try to keep up with our 750 min/mon goal per student. These should be returned to school Jan 5/6. I hope everyone has a wonderful, blessed Christmas holiday with your families. Many wonderful things to come in 2015 I'm sure! Thank you for all the goodies - I've been putting them under the tree at home. Avalyn will enjoy helping to open them and she's even been showing pretty good self-control not opening anything! See everyone next year! God Bless, Mrs. Maurer

Hi Parents!
What we did this week: Reading: Story - Ultimate Field Trip 3: Wading into Marine Biology Spelling: Lesson 13 Suffixes English: Verbs: Teach, learn, sit, set, can, may, let, leave, Test Review Math: Larger Dividends Religion: Liturgy Of the Eucharist Science: Life Science - Selective Breeding, Adaptations, Test Review SS: Egyptian Art, Literature, Buildings, Pharaohs Our class did a WONDERFUL job at the Christmas program this week. We've been busy bees practicing whenever we had breaks - singing and working on lines in the classroom. Tuesday was a little hectic, but it was all pulled together despite a few technical difficulties backstage. I'm very proud of all the students' efforts and acting skills! Great work "Benjamin" and "Rachel" - lots of lines to learn and solos in songs. I also told the students this week I was having an ultrasound to determine if Baby Maurer was a boy or a girl. The class has their guesses in a chart on the chalkboard. I shared with them some photos, but not yet the gender. That will be one of my planned surprises for next week. In the meantime, I have to be very careful when talking about the baby with pronouns! Next Week: Monday: Tuesday: Reading: WLT (Marine Biology) English Unit 3 Verbs Wednesday: SS Ch 4 Test Math Ch 3 Test Potato Observation Booklet Due Thursday: Spelling: Xmas List Friday: Religion Act of Contrition Test Rdg Book Report Due Like this week, we should be very light on written HW, if any. We are mostly trying to get things wrapped up before we are on our 2 week glorious hiatus. :) Friday 12/19, students may dress down in green/red for the Christmas break. Have a wonderful weekend! God Bless, Mrs. Maurer Next Tuesday, we will be having our "Christmas Celebration." If you are interested in sending in a treat or supplies, please let me know by this Friday 12/12.
I was thinking of the following: Styrofoam cups - Hoffacker napkins - Roberts plates - Roberts plastic spoons - Hoffacker hot cocoa packets - Snyder & Hagarman marshmallows - Snyder chocolate chip cookies - Hoffacker brownies - Fout chips - Hoffacker & Fout candy canes - Clabaugh Today we were treated to a performance of the Nutcracker by Nebula School of Music and Dance. Our own Bria was a wonderful dancer in the show and represented the 5th grade and SJS so well. Great job Bria!
Our potatoes have made wonderful progress since our experiment began almost 2 months ago on October 10! Slightly different potatoes and different conditions as they were relocated every few weeks around school has lead to exciting results. They have now all been returned to our classroom for a few days before they head home.
Final observation date will be 12/16 and our booklets are due 12/17. |
