I'm certainly glad we came back after break ready to continue our studies because we sure did have a lot of schedule interruptions on Wednesday. We were all over the school between Secret Santa Shopping, instrumental music lessons, Christmas program practice, cantor practice for mass, helpers for Mrs. McCusker and a few second graders, getting "stockings" ready for St. Nicholas Day, etc! I started pulling a few kids for our yearly Fountas & Pinnell Reading Testing. Students entered their November Book It minutes into the website as well.
Drum roll please....
Our November total is 27,165! SURPASSED our goal by almost 11,000 minutes! WAY TO GO 5TH GRADE!!! We will have a little treat Monday afternoon to celebrate. We shared our cereal box projects with classmates. They look WONDERFUL! December Book Report guidelines will be given out next week and due 12/20. December reading calendars due 1/3.
Our class really loved celebrating St. Nicholas day today and some even worked as special St. Nicholas helpers. Big thanks to our elves!
Also, big thanks to Abby and Grace who graciously volunteered to help out as cantors as our First Friday Liturgy today. I told Fr. Kelly that we were studying parts of the mass in religion and he was great with our class, noting mostly all of the parts through the mass we have studied so far and even quizzing us on them! I think we impressed him. :)
We talked about Advent as a time of preparation and hope for the joyous celebration of Christmas. We've made our own advent wreaths and shared Christmas symbols that are special to us. Finally, we did a little decorating in the classroom which of course the kids loved!
