Catholic Schools Week 2013 was a great success! And how lucky that we were also gifted a 2-hour delay to get some extra rest Monday morning! The Opening liturgy and Education Fair was well attended and busy. On Monday, we prepped for the week.
Tuesday, we were treated with a fantastic performance by the Hanover School of Ballet. It was a beautiful show - and even interactive! By the end, 2 8th grade boys were invited to "challenge" some of the dancers to a push-up contest. The ballerinas won! Students also enjoyed a fresh soft pretzel treat for snack and dressed down in green and white. We worked on making some baby food jar snow globes - they seemed to be trickier than I anticipated...
On Wednesday, the parent lunch was the excitement of the day. Because the younger student were participating in Hoops for Heart, we went out to the Middle School on the first trip. We made good use of our time with some Math practice, journal writing, the states quiz, and gym soccer quiz. Our class also got a taste of Middle School life.
Thursday, we started our activities first thing in the morning in the gym with Mrs. Bortner. Each class got a show off the game they learned and even the teachers got in on the action - playing a game with the 3rd grade. We came back to the classroom and met our 3rd grade prayer partners for a craft. We made angels in honor of the Newtown students and teachers. These turned out really cute!
Today, we had a nice turnout of visitors at our open house - including a 2ft tall little lady in a Flacco shirt. The kids were busy working on words in the Spelling Bee. Big congratulations to our 3 way tie winners - Emma S., Maggie, and Alex. I just could not get those kids to make a mistake! They all did wonderfully! We celebrated a nice closing liturgy at a school and honored Sr. Sue and Monsignor Lyons as it is "Religious Day." We also shared our good copies of our newly completed fiction stories. In the afternoon, we had a Superbowl party with lots of PURPLE decorations and snacks! We had a football challenge to locate football nouns, verbs, and adjectives in the newspaper. Then we watched some School House Rock video clips and the students made predictions for who the winner of the big game will be. Check the website for a photo of this.
Wednesday: SS Ch 7 Test

Friday: Spelling Lesson 15
I think I got everything...
Have a nice weekend! GO RAVENS!!!!!! :)
Pray for a snowy 2 hour delay on Monday. I'm sure we'll all be able to use the extra sleep after a late football game.
