Another productive week on the books here in our penthouse corner office of 5th grade! On Monday, I told the class we'd have to buckle down for a busy week. Mrs. Kilkelly came to talk to our class about the babies we pray for in the Spiritual Adoption Program - they are 20 weeks now! The students enjoyed seeing the model of the baby's approximate size and asked good questions! Tuesday we were occupied with a relocated Valentine's Day, Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday, plus our regular 3 specials. On Wednesday, we hurried to the gym in the morning to practice for mass. Ash Wednesday Liturgy went well and although it ran a little longer than planned, our mass turned out very nice. It was also very well attended - by parents and parishioners! Thursday morning the student were greeted in the classroom with 3 Valentines: from myself, their prayer partners, and God. For Language Arts we wrote love letters! However, these are not your average love letters, they are letters to objects from other objects. The students could choose their items, but they needed to match or depend on one another. My example was chalk+chalkboard. Some ideas the students came up with were: pool+water, hamburger+bun, pencil+pencil sharpener, ball+ball, hair+hairband, garden+flowers...etc. These came out very cute! Today we started a few things for Presidents Day which we will continue next week - BOO Hurricane Sandy!
Throughout the week, we watched the Ruby Bridges movie. I think many valuable lessons were reiterated that we could all use: treat others the way you want to be treated and to respectful to those we meet.
