Although delayed a bit, we enjoyed a Valentine's Day celebration on Monday. Big thanks to those who sent in goodies for the class, plates, napkins, and juice.
We've imput 8,035 minutes for the Book It count this month. Almost 1/2 for the month. Only a week left to meet our goal. February projects went home on 2/12. This month, students are creating a dust jacket for their chosen book.
Lots of WONDERFUL volcano projects came to school today. This was an extra credit project for Science. We shared our thoughts/findings/results and plenty of opinions. Some say they were disappointed there was not a bigger explosion. I hope for the sake of your homes the messes were kept to a minimum.
This week we also worked on President's Day projects and talked about the ongoing Olympics. Since they are shortly coming to a close, I told the kids to try to catch some more of the action before it is gone. Go Team USA!
For Black History Month February we are also learning about Ruby Bridges and will work on a piece of writing pertaining to her life through next week.
Due to the snow days, most likely the Trimester 2 ending date will be extended by a week. I'll keep you updated if this becomes official. This would also push back report cards one week.
From March 1 until the end of the school year, students are now independently responsible for updating HW books and filling in dates, due dates, and events that affect them. From September - February, we've completed these in class, as a class. I've talked to the students about how they will transition to becoming more responsible for themselves and being aware of such deadlines - as will be crucial in Middle School. March will be here next Saturday, so there is only 1 more completed page in their books as of now. They should start filling in at least March's information in the coming week.
