We started our week off completing the finishing touches on our President Obama letters and envelopes. They are now in transit, with most arriving today or tomorrow - just in time for the President's Day holiday! The class was REALLY excited about this project so now we'll wait and see what response(s) we get.
Also in English class this week, we worked on love letters! Of course we heard the moans and groans at first, but after I explained the project, they got excited. We didn't write from themselves to a Valentine, they wrote from an object to another object which would be related. Ex: picture to frame, tissue to box, chalk to chalkboard. They turned out so cute! These are decorating the hallway for others to enjoy.
We enjoyed our Valentine's party today. Thank you for sending in all the goodies. The kids had cupcakes, cookies, popcorn, and pretzels. Plus a bag FULL of sugary products to bring home.
At the end of the day, we started talking about "Fat Tuesday" and Mardi Gras, this background and history. We started making masks which we will finish on Tuesday to decorate ourselves before Lent. I also have some beads to throw at kids who give good answers on Tuesday. : )
A new Sumdog contest started today. Please encourage your child to work on this through the long weekend. There will be prizes for the top students and/or top class. I told them this, but not the prizes themselves. I did hint to them that it is a highly coveted prize and to work hard through next Friday for Sumdog anytime they can.
