What we did this week:
Reading: Story - The School Story
English: Commas in a series, introductory phrases, nouns in direct address, revising
Math: Multiplying decimals
Religion: Sacrament of Reconciliation
Science: Earthquakes & volcanoes
SS: Early Greece, Ruby Bridges
After a nice break from school on Monday, we came back to Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday celebrations. We finished our masks and Ms. Pam had tasty fasnachts for us!
On Ash Wednesday we had a nice liturgy and helped out 2nd grade. They planned and prepared for liturgy and we helped with cantors, altar servers, and the collection.
Volcano projects also came in on Wednesday. These were optional extra credit assignments. I don't advertise these to parents because I like to see the students take initiative to do them. Sounds like the kids had a lot of fun with the projects - hope they weren't too messy! The reports look great. EC points earned are distributed to low Science scores as needed. Example: Test score: 40/50 - 10 points would be applied for 50/50 score. 15 extra credit points were possible on this assignment.
Thursday, we had a lesson on the Chinese New Year and made paper lanterns decorated with Chinese symbols.
Periodically, we've checked on the Eagle nest at Codorus via the live stream video. Now there are 2 eggs! We've also have glimpses of their snacks. Mmm...not!
I shared a few new ultrasound pictures with the class today. He is up to 2lbs 10oz with a head in the 70th percentile. Little Mr. Maurer is in full fetal position, fully crouched in a ball, arms around legs! He will be great at cuddling I'm sure! 11.5 weeks to go!
I've reminded the class that as we come to the end of February, they are responsible for keeping up with updating their assignment books themselves through the end of the year. Until now, we have organized these in class, but now students should be dating, marking due dates, and filling in important events and details on their own. More good Middle School skills and tips!
