First things first! I forgot to tell our class the good news from Mrs. Pugliese today! See her message:
Dear 5th grade students, parents/guardians,
CONGRATULATIONS! You are the first class to reach the end of the Keyboard Reward Board! Here's your surprise.
PAJAMA MOVIE DAY on Monday, March 7.
You may wear SCHOOL APPROPRIATE PJs to school. You must wear your regular shoes since you go outside for morning and lunch recess! I will be providing a snack for you in class. I plan on getting a large bag of popcorn which I will put in cups for you. I don't think anyone is ALLERGIC to popcorn?
You may bring your water bottles to class.
We will start a movie, and it will be a MUSICAL movie, of course!
KEEP UP YOU AWESOME WORK AND ATTITUDE!!
So please let your child know that they may participate on Monday if they'd like. With sneakers please, no slippers.
And here we are in the 3rd Trimester! We've been doing good work here in 5th grade. The class did a wonderful job on their Black History Month Projects. Some opted to use the newspaper format I originally introduced and others opted for a Google Slides presentation. Our February Book It projects also are looking good! I'm going to ask Mrs. Heacock if she'd like to and would be able to display some of them in the school library. March is our last month for Book It. That means one more book report due 3/31.
The students are loving these projects and we are going to keep rolling with them. Next week, I'll introduce a project we'll do for Greek gods and goddesses. I'm going to ask for your help a bit with this one. As we do our research, you'll know that some Greek artwork, in its various forms, may not be fully covered/clothed. Although mostly respectful of the human body, I'll ask that you help supervise their web searches and results as I would do in the classroom as we work on the Chromebooks. I also have my own collection of books that students can also reference. A 3-part science diagram is also on our to-do list. We've started planning for it this week, we'll work on the logistics of it for a few days in class and it'll be HW to finish up at home. My hope is that the home-portion of it will be finishing touches only.
This week, we learned about Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, Lent, and Dr. Seuss. The stories we wrote today inspired by Dr. Seuss turned out awesome! And so many added cool illustrations to match! Through the week, we also made Mardi Gras masks, Lenten butterfly projects, and wrote letters to Ruby Bridges. At the end of the day today, we also played Jeopardy! WHEW! We won't be slowing down in the 3rd trimester, I've got a lot planned to finish the year strong and keep everyone on their toes to get in this final prep before Middle School!
