We've had a wonderful first few days back to school! We've used this time to talk about expectations and responsibility in 5th grade as well as working to make sure we are making good choices in and out of the classroom to be good role models for the younger students. I hope your child has already been able to share with you some of our classroom activities so far. We got-to-know each other with several activities including interest inventories, our HW bags, a partner poster project, and sharing our book reports. I even challenged the kids this afternoon with a marshmallow/spaghetti assignment - be sure to ask your child for details. It was a LOT of fun.
I was really excited to see all of the wonderful posters that came into school for the students' summer reading projects. So many creative design ideas and materials used! I was also impressed to hear how the students shared their work, several having such enthusiasm in their voices, encouraging others to read that book as well.
We are off to a great start and the students know we will really be getting down to business next week. Please bear with us as you will see lots of "worksheets" coming home in lieu of workbooks. I tried to explain to the class as best as I could what the hold-up is on their books, but in the meantime, I'll be making lots of copies. Come on budget!
Next week, we will have our first Spelling test on Friday. No other assessments are planned.
Have a great weekend!
