Good Afternoon! Despite all the needed changes to procedures around school, we are off to a great start! Some of the items we covered this week were: discussing the contents of our desks, labeling all books and folders, reviewing classroom and school rules, taking a tour of the classroom, meeting almost all of our specials teachers (in our own classroom!), practicing current event assignments, planning for prayer tests, and of course, getting to know one another. The students enjoyed sharing their bags from home and talking about our lives and families! We have quite the talented group in here! We've learned how to tweak things in the classroom and I'm sure will continue to learn how to make changes based on COVID regulations, but we had a talk about being flexible with these changes. 5th grade may not be the oldest in the school, but we are biggest in our hall and try our best to set good examples for all those younger than us! We had our first "Pop Quiz" today! Ask your child how it went. :) As I write this, there is a torrential downpour outside, but prior to that, we had good weather today and were able to take a few fun class pictures outside. It was minimal spacing, but I assure you, we were only that close for ~30 seconds to take those few pictures. Look carefully to see who snuck in the back of one of our pictures! Then we enjoyed a "mask break." Next week, students are aware that we will have our first tests. We will get into the routine of a weekly spelling test that is each Friday. Also, our first religion test will be the same day. Students are responsible for knowing all 7 sacraments and the groups they are in: Initiation, Healing, or Vocation/Service of Communion. Shortly after, we will begin our study of Baptism and I will be asking if you could send in a photo of your child's Baptism or perhaps a Baptism that you have attended. This doesn't need to come in next week, but I wanted to give you a heads up that your child will be asking for it by the end of next week for the following week. Student assignment books arrived this week. We've already updated them with some upcoming due dates and events. If you have not already, please send in $5 for your child's assignment book. I hope everyone has a great weekend! God Bless, Mrs. Maurer
