Back into the swing of things we go! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing break from school and work. I certainly had a nice time with Avalyn's first Christmas. Thank you so much for your kind cards and gifts!
It was very nice to hear about all the Acts of Kindness I asked the students to write in their journals over break. I hope you had a chance to look at the work your child has been doing in his/her journal. We are up to ~60 entries for the year so far!
Our December Book It calendars were returned to school this week and after tallying up our new total, the students read 14,121 minutes in December! This is our 3rd month into the program and each month, the total number of minutes read gets larger - way to go 5th grade! It will be a challenge to continue this trend. Keep up the good work! We are not halfway through the program.
With the chilly temperatures this week, it is a good time for a reminder for the students to be sure to bundle up coming to school. Without a coat - not a hoodie - a coat, students will not be permitted to go out at recess. Gloves, hats, scarves, etc are always a good idea.
We've updated the student's assignment books with dates and due dates through the end of February. Starting in March, students will be responsible for completing this on their own.
We've also begun working on note-taking skills. Students should be in the habit of using these notes from their copybooks to study for quizzes/tests.
Test packets came home on Wednesday and were to be returned by today. There is no additional test packet for today.
We went over January's book report project. This is the one that a shoebox is needed for. I have 2 extras in the classroom if your child needs one.
