Trimester 2 closes on Monday grades are just about wrapped up. Even though the weather has been up and down, I officially count this as summer being in our sight!
Please remember that Grandparent's Day RSVPs are due Wednesday, March 8th. Field Trip Permission Slips and $7 are due Friday, March 10th.
We enjoyed some Dr. Seuss and Read Across America fun this week with a bunch of his books, journaling and doodling to make him proud, and watching the Bishop read us a story in honor of the day. The link is below and will be available through the month of March.
We did a FANTASTIC job not only meeting, but exceeding our February Book It minute goal. Our monthly class goal is 13,500, but we read over 17,000 minutes. One month and one more book report to go for March. I wanted to give the class a small reward for meeting this goal, but was thinking a lot of kids give up sweets for Lent, so while we watched the Bishop today, we had some juicy red grapes!
We've had several Religion lessons this week on Ash Wednesday, Lent, and the practices of prayer, fasting, and alms giving. To help keep our Lenten promises, we wrote something we are fasting from and an additional act of kindness to work towards through the season. These promises are on butterflies and tucked into chrysalises. Each week in Lent, the students will get the butterflies and do a self-assessment. The more faithful to their promises, the more of the butterfly they get to color. I sure hope we get to see some colorful friends for Holy Week!
I've reminded the students, but just to keep you aware, we are no longer updating our HW books with due dates, events, reminders as a class. Students should be proactive about completing this independently now that we are in the 3rd Trimester to reinforce MS skills of independence and responsibility. Their copybooks should be great resources for this information, but students can still ask me if they are unsure or need clarification about a due date. March calendars came home on green paper, but you can also access the school calendar on the website through the end of the year.
Please remember our COGATs and IOWAs testing weeks are coming up soon. It is very helpful for us to all get started together if no appointments are scheduled during these weeks. These dates are on the 5th grade page and the school calendar.
