Another week done, another day closer to summer! Can you believe we are into May? So thankful for the warming trend in the temperatures. We enjoy the sun at recess!
We had a nice celebration of the liturgy this morning as our class helped the plan the mass. I tried to incorporate all students and most had 2 or 3 "jobs." This helps keep them focused and keeps them on their toes! Great work to our class!
We were surprised and saddened to hear the news of Bishop McFadden's passing yesterday. He certainly was such a vibrant, enthusiastic shepherd of Christ who truly enjoyed working with and teaching the children in our Diocese. A student remarked that it wasn't but a few weeks ago, the Bishop was here to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with our students. This is a great loss for our community and Diocese. We will be eager to hear about and join in a celebration of his life and funeral mass.
Big thanks for allowing your students to bring in and share the wedding photos. The students really enjoyed seeing all the pictures and styles of clothing people wore on their big day. We also really enjoyed sharing memories after they spoke with a married person about memories from their wedding. The funny stories were a nice addition to the occasion: forgetting to bring things/people to the church, messages delivered from bride to groom and vice versa, bridal party pranks - all in good fun of course, and good old "cake-in-the-face."
We are coming very close to the the final newsletter for this school year. I would like to ask if each parent could reply in email or a note to school by June 6th about comments, thoughts, or suggestions about your child's 5th grade year. Each year that I've been here at St. Joe's I've tried to modify, adjust, or just plain change things that have gone well or not as smoothly as I anticipated. For example, you could tell me about your child's favorite subject and why, a topic we studied that was interesting or one that could be 'jazzed' up, or perhaps a favorite book report project.
I've been reminding the students that we are coming upon some of the last grades they will receiving in each subject in the next few weeks. Don't "throw in the towel " just yet!
