Wow! I can't believe how fast our first full month went! With 24 little friends in the classroom all day working hard, our days go by in a flash! Everyone is into a regular routine now. We continue to wear masks and sit spaced apart. It is challenging from time to time, but we are making the best of it. Maybe one day school will be "normal" again, if there even is such a thing.
Fall is upon us and we are reading stories and doing activities that reflect the season. Before we know it we will be celebrating Halloween. Parent-teacher conferences are coming up and I look forward to talking with everyone.
What we are working on:
Phonics: So far we have worked on the letters "L, O, H, G, and T" When learning letters, we work on identifying each one, learning the sounds each letter makes, and how to put the letters together to make words. We have learned the word families "og" and "ot".
Reading: We learned the sight words "I, like, the, and "and". We have been reading stories that use these words. The children are now able to read and write very basic "I like" sentences using pictures for some of the words.
Grammar: This month we learned about nouns and verbs. We now know that nouns can be people, places, things, or animals. We also know that verbs are action words, and that nouns and verbs go together to make sentences.
Math: We worked hard this month on the numbers 0-5. We learned to recognize and write these numbers, as well as, count objects. We also learned about "greater than", "less than", and "equal to".
Religion: We talked about some familiar Bible stories such as, Noah's Ark, Jonah and the Whale, Moses, and Adam & Eve. We attended two school Masses so far, and are learning how important it is to be quiet and listen at Mass.
Science & Social Studies: Each week we do a Weekly Reader. The themes this month focused on beginning of the year topics such as; following directions, how to be a good friend, and school rules. We also talked about Labor Day, apples, and our families.
