Welcome!I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your child in Physical Education. As we start the year, I would like to tell you briefly about the program and the policy and procedures.
PROGRAM: The program for Kindergarten though Grade 3 will emphasize the development of perceptual-motor skills, which include such things as locomotor and non-locomotor skills (running, skipping, hopping, bending, stretching, etc.), manipulative skills, balance, movement exploration and various game activities. The program for Grades 4 - 8 concentrates on the development of fundamental sport skills, lead-up games, and rules for the various team sports, as well as fitness skills. Although different skills and activities are utilized in both programs, the importance and value of regular physical activity is strongly emphasized. Research has shown that aerobic exercise prepares the brain to learn, improves mood and attention, and lowers stress and anxiety. Each class basically consists of four parts: warm-up activity, fitness development activity, lesson focus activity, followed by a game activity. DRESS: All students will need the following for Physical Education class (optional for Preschool and Kindergarten):
*All sweatshirts and sweatpants should be marked with your child's name.* EXCUSES: When your child needs to be excused from participation in Physical Education class, a note from home is required. When the duration of the excuse is for several classes, a doctor's note is required. MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
