We wrapped up our apple unit with a field trip to Baugher’s Orchards. The past few weeks, we have studied the parts of an apple, the apple life cycle, learned that there are many types of apples and learned about orchards. Tomorrow we will use some of the apples we picked to make applesauce! Yum!

Dear Pre-K families,
        We are so excited to welcome you to our St. Joseph School family and our PreK program!  Next year will be filled with fun and learning as we grow in God’s love and learn to share God’s love with others!  Mrs. Jessica Scott will be teaching our full-time Pre-K 4 class.  Should you need to reach us, you can do so via email.  Please use jscott@sjshanoverpa.org to contact Miss Jessica.  Over the summer, we will try to check our email weekly.
        To help everyone prepare for Pre-K next year, we’d like to take time to address a few of our most frequent questions.

What time are my child’s classes? ​

• Pre-K 4 full-time meets Monday – Friday.  Drop off time is 7:40-8:00 AM.  Dismissal is at 2:45 PM.

“How can I get my child ready for PreK?” 

• Practice following simple instructions.
• Have a “Packed lunch” together.  
• Help your child learn to communicate their needs.
• Practice getting dressed, including shoes and jackets
• Practice using the restroom independently (including wiping)
• Create a “goodbye routine”

“What will my child be learning?”    

• Using play, song, movement and a variety of other activities, the children will develop many skills.
• Religion --  God’s love for us, how to share God’s love with others, and how to pray.  PreK 4 uses a program called “God Made the World.” 
• Pre-K 4 --   Social Skills (sharing, listening to directions, manners, etc.), Review of Pre-K 3 skills, Reading readiness (letter/sound identification, letter formation, rhyming, syllabication), Math readiness skills (counting, number identification, patterning, and measuring)
• All of the Pre-K children will be introduced to many science and social studies themes. 

“What does my child need to bring?” 

• Most supplies will be provided by us.  We will create "wish lists" for miscellaneous items throughout the year.
• Pre-K 4 are asked to have a book bag and may need a lunch box if packing a lunch.  They will be given a folder. 
• Miss Jessica would like each child to bring a container of disinfecting wipes
• Extra set of clothes that can be kept in the classroom (pants, T-shirt, underwear and socks).
• MOST IMPORTANTLY – a positive attitude and excitement to learn!
