We had 2 short weeks, but they were busy!
In religion, we completed our first unit, "Jesus Is My Friend" and started our second unit, "My Teacher Welcomes Me." In Unit 2, we use the story of Jesus calling the children and apply it to our life in school.
We also completed our color red activities by sorting red stickers by size in our Smartbooks and making red bracelets. Both of these activities are great for strengthening little fingers and getting ready to write.
Centers were also introduced. We keep them short and sweet at first and gradually lengthen them as the children's stamina and attention span lengthen. This week, we rotated through a building center (including Duplo blocks and our tool bench), a puzzle center, and a center with me. When the students have time with me, we review a skill or I introduce something new. This week, I introduced our individual white boards, and we practiced drawing horizontal lines.
We have also been learning about Community Helpers. We learned a few new songs and played a fun guessing game on the interactive white board.
We had two short but busy weeks!
In religion, we learned that we can be friends with Jesus. We practiced ways to be a good friend to Jesus and our classmates. The children discovered that by making Green Choices, we can be a good friend.
We introduced the letter Aa, how to spell a (short sound), building Aa with stickers, identified the letter Aa, and learned how to write Aa by rainbow writing in our Smart Books. Next week, we will introduce the letter Bb.
We also had our first PE and Music classes! The children really enjoyed them. Mrs. Oliver, our librarian, also came to read to us for the first time.
We are so excited to start our new school year! The children did a great job our first week following directions and learning our routines! We introduced our Green and Red Choices chart, which helps us to learn classroom rules and appropriate behaviors.
We introduced our first Religion unit that focused on Bible stories teaching us that Jesus loves us and wants to be our friend. The Terrific Threes read "Let the Children Come to Me" and the Fantastic Fours read "Jesus Calls His Friends (disciples)."
In both classes, we read stories about characters returning to school. We discussed the characters' red and green choices, and compared their schools to ours. We read How Do Dinosaurs Go to School? and Pete the Cat Rocking My School Shoes.
We reviewed colors by playing gamed on our interactive board. The Fantastic Fours also sorted stickers by color in their Smart Books.
To start our year off on a fun note, we began with a Beach theme. We sang songs, played movement games, and each class created a Beach themed art project.
In Fantastic Fours, we introduced straight lines. We sorted letter magnets to find letters with straight lines. We also practiced building straight lines with flat marbles and tracing straight lines.
Enjoy a few pictures from our first week!
