We have had a few very busy weeks preparing our hearts and classroom for Christmas! We have learned that Advent is the time we prepare for Christmas by decorating, wrapping gifts, baking cookies, but most importantly by spending more time praying and being kind. The children were all given a Kindness Calendar for the month of December with a way to show kindness each day.
In the Terrific Threes, we also introduced the colors purple, pink and brown. We reviewed shapes and practiced counting. We have begun learning how to trace straight lines. Our Christmas crafts helped us to strengthen our fine motor skills. We needed to cut, glue, sting beads and squeeze glitter glue bottles to create Christmas Tree Collages, ornaments and gingerbread people.
In the Fantastic Fours, we introduced the letters Ll and Mm. We continue to play games and sing songs to review all of the letters and sounds. I've begun our mid-year assessments and am very impressed with how well most of the children know their letters! We have also been reviewing numerals to 10 and have learned a new song that helps us count to 100. Our Christmas crafts have also helped us strengthen fine motor skills, as well as review literacy and math skills. We created a string of light bulbs that spells our names, a Christmas tree arranged in size order, and made patterns on candy canes.
