We had a very busy second week of school! The children are making new friends and play nicely together. We are encouraging the children to use kind words, including: "please," "thank you," and "May I have a turn?" We have been allowing a few extra minutes of play each morning to work on building positive social skills.
In religion, we learned that we can hear. God is wonderful to make so many amazing sounds for us to hear. One sound that we introduced was the fire alarm. We also had a fire drill and the children did very well for the first time.
We also introduced the color red. We painted strawberries, sorted objects to find the red ones, colored red objects on a worksheet, read The Little Red Hen, and learned the red song. I posted the YouTubel ink for this at the bottom of the page.
We read several stories, such as I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell and Time for School Mouse. We also practiced following directions by dancing to silly songs by Dr. Jean and played the sharing game several times.

In Religion, we learned that God made our families. Each of our families is special and has different ways to show love. We even learned that Jesus has a family!
During centers, we have been practicing the correct way to hold a pencil and how to trace lines. This will become even more important as we learn how to correctly write letters and our names. We have also been review colors and practicing sorting and counting.
We started learning about our first letter -- the Letter Aa. We learned "The A Song," which I have posted a link to at the bottom of the page. We looked at our names to see how many times we could find the a Big A or a Little a. We played games to help us identify the sound that Aa makes. We also worked on the "A Page" of our Smart Books. Smart Books are composition books where we do a lot of our work to show how smart we are.
We had Physical Education class with Mrs. Bortner and learned about personal space. Then we got into our cars (hula hoops) and practiced running without crashing.
Ms. Keffer also visited us for our first Library class. She read 10 Tiny Turtles to us. Miss Jessica also read Aaaachoooo! and I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell.
