Last week, we learned about apples and Johnny Appleseed. We made colorful apple prints and learned that Johnny Appleseed was a great helper. This week, we transition to the color orange and our pumpkin theme begins!
In religion, we completed chapter 4. We learned that our names are important, and that we are all children of God. We learned a new song called, “I Am Special.”
We introduced the color orange this week. We made a collage with orange stickers in our Smart Books, snipped orange paper, painted a paper plate pumpkin.
The children are enjoying our center time! We have one rotation each day. Two groups have an independent activity, while the other two groups have an activity with either Miss Jessica or Miss Anita. Center time gives us an opportunity to concentrate on certain skills each group needs. The independent centers are engaging. During this rotation, one independent center was given a S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) challenge to build a Lego tower. At the other independent station, children created Mr. Potato Head’s to match pictures.
We have also been practicing counting to 10, identifying our written names, and social skills. There's always some fun learning activity going on in our room!
Last week, we learned about apples and Johnny Appleseed. We made a Johnny Appleseed craft and learned that Johnny Appleseed was a great helper. We also made applesauce for snack. Yum!
In religion, we completed chapter 4 and begin chapter 5. We heard the story of the Good Shepherd, and learned that God loves us and will take care of us. We also learned that we have many adults in our lives that love and care for us as well.
Last week, we learned about the letter D and had a great Dinosaur Day! We made hand print dinosaurs, looked for fossils in kinetic sand, and introduced Dinosaur Soup at centers. Dinosaur Soup is a counting game where the children have to follow a recipe card and count out the ingredients. We will have many more soups and stews this year!
This week, we introduced the letter E. We practiced identifying capital and lower case E, spelling the /c/ sound, and writing Ee. We build the letter E with stickers in our Smart Books and sorted pictures that have the beginning /e/ sound.
Last week, we also had a special visit from Mr. Ron. Mr. Ron is a seminarian at Mount Saint Mary’s. He will be visiting our class several times this year.
We have also been practicing counting to 20, identifying and writing our first names, and social skills.
