Last week our students had the wonderful opportunity to visit our Secret Santa Shop.
Students were very excited to buy special gifts for their parents, siblings, relatives, friends...and sometimes even for themselves! The children so enjoyed this very special, magical time!
We thank the chairpersons, Mrs. Anna Corbin and Mrs. Sue Davis from the Home and School Committee, for sharing their expert shopping skills and providing the event. We also thank all the parent volunteers who generously gave their time to help provide this awesome experience for our children.
We are all aware that there is concern about the curriculum being used in public and some private schools. There have been many news reports and newspaper articles on this matter that have reflected a wide variety of opinions.
We assure you that Saint Joseph School is keeping our current curriculum. Saint Joseph School is following the Curriculum of the Diocese of Harrisburg. We have an excellent curriculum, and our students benefit by the high expectations we set. Our students are well-prepared for their high school years, and most of our students go on to college.
This does not mean that we won't ever make any changes. Along with the other schools in the diocese, we will continue to explore, study, and adapt new ideas that will strengthen our present curriculum. Be sure, however, that we certainly don't intend to adapt materials or ideas just because they are a new trend. The Diocesan Department of Education oversees any changes in curriculum. With an effort to provide an excellent curriculum, the diocese organizes Curriculum Committees composed of expert, experienced teachers who do research and study curriculum in their area of expertise. These teachers continually work to refine and enrich our curriculum, the Curriculum of the Diocese of Harrisburg.
With all the questions and concerns about the curriculum in other schools, I thought it would be helpful to give parents the correct information concerning our school. At Saint Joseph School, we plan to follow our present curriculum and continue with our work to provide the very best in Catholic education for our students.
