On Friday, April 12th, we held our 12th annual Race for Education. Teachers and students participated in the event. The Race was held indoors due to the rainy weather, but that didn't dampen the spirits of our student runners. They raced around the track that was marked off on the gym floor, jogging and walking to the beat of the music. Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 ran during the first time period, followed by grades 3 and 4, and then by grades 5 and 6. The last group, Grades 7 and 8, ran the final laps wrapping up our Race event. Everyone showed school spirit by dressing in our school colors - green and white. All the students, teachers, parents, grandparents, and parishioners in the bleachers cheered on the runners as they ran their laps.
The Race for Education is a very important fundraiser for our school. Our goal for this year is to raise $18,000. Our students really like the Race as it is a fun event that gives them the opportunity to do something special for their school. Students each obtained sponsors who gave donations for their efforts in the Race. We truly appreciate the help and support of everyone who has made a donation. If you also would like to contribute, please send your donation to Saint Joseph School, Race for Education, 236 Baltimore Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
We extend our Special Thanks to Mrs. Mary Kate Catlin, our Race for Education Coordinator, for all her work in planning and providing the event. We also thank Mrs. Dee Bortner, our Physical Education Teacher, for her work with our groups of student runners. In addition, we thank Mrs. Jenny Martin for being the announcer for the event.
Many moms and dads helped keep track of the number of laps that students ran, gave out water and snacks, etc. We are grateful for the help of all parent volunteers who made the Race a fun-filled, successful event to benefit the children of Saint Joseph School.
