We have some very exciting, wonderful news to share with you!
Over the past few weeks, Monsignor Lyons and I have been exploring the possibility of moving our elementary students to the Parish site at Grandview Road. This move would provide our students with many advantages which include the location at the Church site, a beautiful school facility, and a nice, large area to play outdoors.
We are fortunate to have a wonderful gym, cafeteria (social hall), and kitchen already in place and available for our use. Of course, we will need more classrooms than those that already exist at the parish center, so we are researching the possibility of adding a few, very nice, modular classrooms.
In arranging the classrooms, we plan to have a primary grade and an elementary grade section. We also plan to keep the 6th, 7th and 8th grades together in one hallway so that they will have their “middle school” area and activities, including changing classes, use of lockers, etc.
There are many benefits to consider. For one, our children will all be together in one facility. This will be a help to parents in that you won’t have to drop off and pick up your children at 2 locations. Another benefit will be that we only will have one computer lab to update and maintain. The savings from providing a single lab certainly will help us to build up our technology program. More importantly, the move will help with school and parish finances in that it will bring about the savings of all the costs incurred with operating and maintaining the old school building on Baltimore Street.
We are blest that Monsignor Lyons is a very caring Pastor who supports Catholic Education and wants to provide the best educational environment possible for our children. At this point, he has presented this idea to both the Parish Finance Council and Parish Pastoral Council. Monsignor also has appointed a special committee to help us as we continue to study this wonderful idea.
I will keep you informed of our progress. At this time, our best estimate for the time of the move would be that it would occur prior to August 2015.
Please pray for our work on this effort.
Mrs. Susan M. Mummert, Principal
